The features that StageWave offered us, allowing us to control our own mixes with individual channels and individual mixes, were very attractive and have been an incredible resource not only for performances but for our rehearsals.

VocalistTo me, personally, it changed my life because I went from having a floor monitor that was too loud right next to me directly in my face, to having in-ear monitors that block everything and the only thing I can hear is what I configured on my phone.

ERIE, an independent band from Albany, New York, faced a problem in their live performances and rehearsals: Like many bands in the independent scene, they identified the need to control their monitoring without the need for expensive equipment or an exclusive sound engineer at every event.
In every place they played, the stage monitoring was different, or even non-existent, so if they wanted to ensure a comfortable performance anywhere they went, they needed to look for a portable personal monitoring solution. They began the search for a personal in-ear monitoring solution that did not involve a high cost and that they could control themselves.
The solution
When they found StageWave, they saw that it offered all the features they needed at an affordable cost, so it was the smartest decision for the band.
The band structured their setup in a portable rack optimized for quick and efficient setup. Their setup included:
- An Art PB 4x4 power distributor for a clean electrical setup
- A 16-channel analog splitter that allowed them to split the signal without affecting the typical flow of each venue.
- A 16-channel digital mixer Zoom L-20R, this rack version allows them to make mix adjustments without depending on external equipment, where all connections remain fixed, except for the XLRs of the microphones. One channel of the mixer is dedicated to the click, which is not sent to the front of house console.
- A 5 GHz Linksys AC3000 WiFi router, to create a local area network necessary for StageWave. The router password was placed at the front of the rack for easy access.
- An adapter that connects an Ethernet cable and a USB cable to their laptop, which runs StageWave server.
Results
Individual control
Each member was able to adjust their personal mix in real-time, improving the auditory experience during performances.
Consistent sound in any venue
Thanks to the use of the analog splitter and digital mixing, the band achieved uniform monitoring regardless of the equipment available at each venue.
Conclusion
The implementation of StageWave in ERIE's workflow demonstrated that independent bands can access professional quality monitoring without prohibitive investments. With an easy-to-implement setup and full control over their mixes, ERIE was able to improve their live experience and rehearsals, optimizing their performance at each performance.
